NASCAR Hall of Famer and Franklin resident Darrell Waltrip endorsed State Representative Gino Bulso’s (R-Brentwood) campaign for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District on Tuesday.
Waltrip, a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and longtime commentator on FOX’s NASCAR broadcasts, called Bulso “the real deal,” adding, “He’s a man of deep Christian faith, a proven fighter for conservative values, and someone I know will never back down when it comes to supporting President Trump and his policies.”
“Just like on the racetrack, you can tell when somebody’s got the grit and determination to win. Gino has it. Boogity, boogity, boogity — let’s send him to Congress and win this race for Tennessee,” Waltrip stated.
Bulso said he was “honored” to have Waltrip’s endorsement, who he called “a Tennessee legend who embodies faith, family, and perseverance.”
“Darrell Waltrip has always represented the best of Tennessee — a competitor who rose to the top of NASCAR, a successful businessman, and a man of strong Christian faith. I am honored by his endorsement, and I look forward to working with him and President Trump to defend our values, secure our border, and restore American greatness,” Bulso added.
Waltrip’s history of political endorsements in Tennessee includes his support of David Fox for Nashville mayor in 2015 and Marsha Blackburn for U.S. Senate in 2018.
Bulso (pictured above), who launched his candidacy for the 7th District last month, has said if elected to Congress, his primary focus would be to tackle the national debt.
“[The debt] is becoming something that has to be addressed. There is no longer time to delay, and we need to get the public’s attention riveted on it because of the long-term effects of it…It is not sustainable. It needs to change,” Bulso said on The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
The Republican primary in the special election to fill the seat for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7.

DW also endorsed and supported Governor Lee. Not sure supporting or endorsing candidates means much. Pointing out there ability to understand the role, reason for entering the public square to seek office and ability to reign in waste, fraud, abuse of taxpayer money are questions I would like answered.
